new Sanpan owner with power bimini top question

Just received a new Sanpan with the power top option...question:
what is the procedure to get the top up to a 45 degree angle?
If you use the power switch, it starts to open the top immediately from laying horizontal...if i leave the bimini cover on, it works but motor sounds like it is working too hard. Is there a trick i'm missing?
